Your Hero Fantasy

on Tuesday, June 12, 2007

I believe we all have fantasies at some time of our lives that we might rise to some form of greatness. Perhaps some of us acheived our aspirations while for the rest it remains in the realm of our fantasies. My great ambition of winning a Nobel Prize was only just recently accomplished when Stock City Girl awarded me the Nobel Prize for "partying". I would have prefered medicine but beggars can't be chosers. Um, Stock City Girl, I am still awaiting my certificate and the promised beer.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to have a poll here on what type of hero you would like to be or that you look up to. Apart from voting, please leave a comment to explain why you made that choice. I promise to post on my own choice and the reasons for that choice.

It's so hard to choose! Can I be a hybrid? A scientific hero that advances something that aids humanitarian efforts?

I chose Humanitarian. I keep thinking of Fred Hollows, & all the good he did for people who could not see. When he died his wife began the Fred Hollows Foundation, which continues to do so much good.

I chose political like Winston Churchill, because I think they are in the position to effect the most change for good. But I see from the poll that humanitarians had the highest votes. But I think ultimately politicians can be humanitarians with "clout".

I chose cultural hero because it would allow me to do my love for music and at the same time have plenty of money to donate to causes I believe in.
I believe if you learn how to use your cultural hero status you can reach a lot of people.

science hero ..... all humanity is in their debt

and it will take even more science to save us now

they're all accidental heroes, the real heroes are you and me. the meek will inherit the earth. men look at appearances, God, into the heart. lots of thanks to them anyway.

Probably being a great leader, but seriously, what could be better than winning the Nobel prize for partying??

I chose humanitarian because it was as close as I could get. I notice there was not a "medical hero" choice. I think discovering something in medicine (kind of a cross between scientific and explorer/discoverers) that could save or enhance billions of lives would be the ultimate definition of the word "hero." I wish I could discover something like the secret of spinal cord rejuvenation or the cure for cancer.

I don't want to be known for anything, really I just want to be able to be alone and comfortable with my conscience LOL

Good post Lone G.

I'm with Lorraine - I don't ever want to be a hero but if I had to be one I would want it to be of a scientific nature in the field of psychology in the hopes that one could improve/cure the mental awareness of mankind.

proxima,
We know you are a hybrid but that just screws up the statistics! LoL.

meggie,
I sensed that would have been your choice.

josie,
A brave choice.

TC,
I like your reasoning! It's real to you.

kat,
Not surprised by your choice but might sports hero be a close second if we allow jockeys to be counted?

anonymous,
I agree that they were all accidental heroes in that opportunity crossed their path but they still chose to grasp the opportunity and that makes or breaks them as a hero.

michael,
How about being a great leader at a party. Hey, that would be a Party Leader! "Everybody Conga!"

geewits,
Wow, you gave this some thought. I would have placed medical with science hero. But you can't go wrong with humanitarian. I think somebody will very soon be that hero for spinal cord regeneration. It'll be in the next 20 years.

Evalinn,
I'm just trying my luck with the beer. Humanitarian, eh? Interesting.

Lorraine,
That would be the Lone Ranger type Hero. :)

janice,
I think you chose a good one. Medicine and society still don't realise that mental illness is more incapacitating than much physical illnesses.

and I then would choose to be an EQUINE HERO or as we have seen.... !!!! HEROINE !!!!!

What an exciting series of races and even if you are not a horsey fan...well, the stories, the human connections, are fascinating to read as well

good one LGS. i chose business hero because i've always been an entrepreneur at heart desiring to help others. i'd love to own properties (houses, apts, cars, etc) to give to people who need them, and make them affordable for those who don't have much, but can do a little. i'm presently working on opening several businesses, which will provide services to those in need who can't afford them as well as to those who can. when i see someone evicted, i always wish i could help them out. one day, i'll be in the position to do much.

this wasn't a popular field since i was the only one who chose it, but then i've always been different--walking to the beat of my own drum, so to speak.

I choose the scientific one. Newton, Einstein, la Curie understood something and, yes, I would like to understand too. If I would be able to tell it the other humans and some good change in the world would come from this - than I would accept to be called a hero. but only after some beer at your party, laureate!

I chose Explorer/Discoverer because I am not very adventurous and hardly go anywhere out of my small town. I wish I could be more like those people listed in this catagory.

I chose humanitarian too. There's so much wrong in the world and I think it will take super powers to fix it all.

I'm torn between adventure/discoverer & humanitarian hero. A little of both I suppose. I love a good adventure & discovering new things as part of adventuring but I don't suppose I need to be heroic for it. So why not humanitarian. I have so much already, how could I NOT give back & find ways to help!

Everyone can be somebody's hero. (isn't that a song or something)

Well -- i want to be churchill, nobel-prize-winning, discovering hero. can i please? I mean, imagine if you could blend churchill and dorothy parker -- you've got your own brilliant dinner and drinks party right there! Dotty Churchpark. Win Parkhill. That's me
